My Norwegian immigrant grandmother was a sweatshop seamstress at one time, by the time I came along she was a homemaker and would sew a lot, she would give me boxes of scraps & I would make things out of them probably from about 6 years old. By 12 I was making my own clothes. My stepmom didn't want me to make anything with gathers or set in sleeves or zippers, afraid she would have to bail me out of my mistakes. My teenage rebellion consisted of sewing things I wasn't supposed to sew. At an early age I was changing things around, couldn't leave a pattern well enough alone. As an adult I got into medieval reenactment, I had always loved to play dress up anyway, and my costume specialty developed. I sew for dancers, ice skaters, reenactors, and just anything, but I like whimsy and wearable art the best.
