Waist welt pocket

Homesew | Posted in Teach Yourself To Sew on

Hi everyone

I am looking for a little help, my current project is a waistcoat which I am making of suiting material.  The waistcoat has a false welt and a pocket welt which is positioned at the lower edge.

Here is the error due to the thickness of the fabric, I found slitting the pocket/welt difficult and resorted to my rotary cutter, unfortunately I let the cutter overrun a little and I have a small hole in my fabric on the right side.  Please advise the best way of mending this?  I do not want to start the project again if at all possible.

Any tips or ideas gratefully received.

Could you darn or patch and sew a sprat head  for strength and decoration as per attached, if it's in the corner of the pocket.

      Pocket solution

I did think about darning but it can look even more of a mess (when I do it).  I am liking the sprat head, please share how to do one?

excited about this maybe not a complete disaster, but a decorative design. Love it.

          Pocket welt

Hi I did see your attachment after I sent my reply, apologies for that.  I think that I will use a combination of the sprat head at the corners and some zig zag along the side by this method I should be able to slip a think piece of material to cover the error.

Thanks once again for turning a disaster into a design feature.

          Successful sprat head

Just a quick line to say that the sprat head covered my nicks beautifully.  They took quite a few practice runs, but that is better than starting all over again.

Many thanks for the tip, I may use it again for design detail on another project.

          Regards
