installing an invisible zipper along a side seam with pocket

Sefanna | Posted in Teach Yourself To Sew on

Hello, I am having difficulty installing an invisible zipper along a dress side seam with a pocket. The instructions provided with the pattern confuse me, and I cannot find any alternate instructions in my sewing books. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

installing invisible side zipper with pocket

I think the easiest method is to hand base the pocket neatly onto the main piece and then separate from that, hand base the side zipper and try the garment on.  When zipped up, the pull from the zipper should be under the arm and not towards the hemline. Once you like that, permanently attach the zipper by sewing it from the inside but not top stitch so the zipper is invisible.  Then you remove all the basting thread including the thread you used to base the pocket.

I think you would have to put the zipper in the side seam and then add the pocket to the inside of the zipper tape.  Then you would sew the pocket together.  The zipper will close the pocket but wil not open the seam below where the pocket is sewn.

what type of pocket is it

pocket style matters.  you would have to identify the pocket style, where the opening of the pocket is.
