For forty years I used a Singer Trestle to which I added an electric motor. this was the one I learnt on and still have although I seldom use it now unless there’s a power failure! Later I acquired a Frister Rossman, a great machine, but wanting a little more than its five stitches I bought a computerised Janome 33, some years ago and it serves me very well indeed. Recently someone told me about a Veritas machine but I can’t find any reference to it anywhere – I believe it is a German machine. Can anyone give me any information about this?

I have had a Husqvarna Prisma 990 (likely called a Viking in the US) for 22 years and have sewn a million miles on it. There are no plastic parts. It has been into the shop just twice in that time just for a checkup, no real problems.This machine is a workhorse and occasionally I still find new uses for some of the many feet. Contrary to the advice I hear, I do not change needles after every project, far from it. I do change the needle to accommodate different fabrics. It floats over pins (carefully), I use good thread, keep the interior free of lint and even use the flywheel to make twisted cord. Great machine. Don't need a serger.
