*Knock off your Favorite Pants* article

meg | Posted in Talk With Us on

A HUGE thank you for this timely article (issue #133, pg. 40)! Two friends asked me to recreate their favorite pants and just days later, this issue arrived in my mailbox. Even though I’ve sewn for 40 years my previous attempts at copying any garment were pretty sad (and ONLY for myself!). I read through this article several times, gathered the supplies, and voila! Both customers were very, very pleased with the results. The directions are great, pictures very helpful, and I’m glad to have a new tool to work with.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Meg

    Meg,

    Congrats on making these knock-offs!

I have finally found a pair of pants that fit and would like to try this. Have a few questions for you and hope you don't mind answering them.

Did you open the crotch seam where the top of the legs meet as the article suggested?

Did you have a hard time rolling the back leg to get the correct width of the leg? How did you do this back leg - exactly as the directions stated? My back leg is about an inch wider than my front leg so I am just curious if the directions work for copying the back leg.

    Thanks for your answers.

No, I didn't open the seam; these were both knit pants (one pair definitely had seen much better days!) and I simply worked slowly and carefully.Did you have a hard time rolling the back leg to get the correct width of the leg? It did help a lot to remember to measure from the crotch seam to the side seam! Be sure to not skip that step because it helps to ensure you've copied the entire pattern - otherwise the pants you make won't go around your leg.Go ahead and try the directions!
