Cutting technique

Jsydney | Posted in Talk With Us on

I have read that one should not use the same scissors to cut fabric and paper.  My question is “how do you cut your pattern when placed on your fabric?  Aren’t you using the same scissors to cut your pattern (paper) and fabric together?”

Cut the excess paper off the pattern before you lay it on the fabric.  I know that takes a few more minutes, but it is worth it.  If you need to alter the pattern you have to cut around the pattern, anyway, to accurately alter the pattern..  I have a dedicated rotary cutter just for paper as well as dedicated scissors.

    Cutting

all these years I've first cut out the paper pattern and then do the layout and use my fabric scissors.  Never even thought of doing it your way, it sounds much easier

For years I have cut them together if the pattern has not been used or altered before.  I don't think that the thin tissue paper is going to hurt your scissors.

I agree........thin pattern  tissue is very different to regular paper.
