Quilt finished!

damascusannie's picture

I'm done with the quilt for the High Plains Rendezvous. The top was pieced by my friend Mary and I quilted it for her.

Thanks, everyone. This is one of the top ten best quilting jobs I've ever done. Even I'm impressed when I see the pictures!

Woohooooooo!!!  The quilt is beautiful!  Excellent workmanship on the ole Damascus.  I wondered where you came up with your callname Damascus Annie!!!

Funnily enough--that's not the machine that inspired the name! I have nearly a dozen Damascus machines now. It also didn't put a single stitch into the quilt--it just happened to be in the living room where we took the pictue, so we left it in for ambiance. I'll post a picture of me at my quilting treadle tomorrow.

Oh, well, it does add to the atmosphere of the photograph of your lovely quilt.  Hey, you sure are up late tonight!  It's 11:00 here so that must make it midnight in Wisc.?  I'm off to bed now, sweet dreams!  Mary

I was up late--we were cutting up a deer. The family had a very successful hunting season this year. We were able to help some neighbors who are on hard times, plus have plenty for ourselves. We always do our own butchering and packing, so the real work begins after the season is over.

So glad that you had a good hunting season!  My grandson went on his first hunts this year with his grandpa and great grandpa.  Lots of shooting, but no game.  Then he went again with a friend's family.  He had a great time anyway!  Both of the grandson's got their hunter safety cards this year.  They both are more experienced with archery, but haven't hunted with bows yet.  I think it's good for them to learn the skills, especially the safety issues.

It was good of you to help out the neighbors, many blessings to you!  Decades ago, we used to get free buffalo meat from friends with a buffalo ranch, it really was a blessing!  I've  always remembered their kindness.  Mary

You are so right about that being hard work. Congratulations on the successful hunt. For many years venison was our primary source of meat, and it still is for our son and his family, so I understand about the work involved. Venison is not only very good, it is extremely healthy.

Venison is still our main meat source, so we are very thankful that it was a good hunting year for our family. In general, it wasn't a good hunting year across the state--lowest numbers in decades, so we are doubly grateful that we have enough meat for the year.

Oh Annie! That's beautiful!

Somehow, I'd missed the pics last night ...
I'd be sorely tempted to use the back as the display side!

Keep on Treadlin'!

Thanks for the nice remarks everyone! Here's a shot of me working on it. The machine is a 1955 Montgomery Wards 15 class, made in Japan, and mounted over a treadle base. I love this machine for quilting--far and away the best one I've used yet.
