New Irish Quilting magazine!

Ckbklady's picture

Hi everyone!

I had the great good fortune to pick up a copy of the premiere issue of Irish Quilting in a supermarket in Surrey, BC, Canada today. It's lovely! It's a bit of a mystery, though - it says, "Premiere Issue 2008" but doesn't state the month of issue. Absent too are mentions of the number of issues intended per year and the annual subscription rate (The single copy rate was steep - $9.95 CDN). The website is equally oblique - check it out:

www.irishquilting.ie

letters@irishquilting.ie  (to get in touch with them)

The site mentions Issue #2, so I guess it's out already. The supermarket had only the first.

Surely every new magazine has its bumps along the way. I sure like this one! The editor's letter is appealing as are the biographies of the six very accomplished women on their advisory panel. And the quilts! I hope they publish some of the quilt pictures online. Each quilt is photographed outdoors in the beautiful Irish countryside and comes with full instructions. Ahhhh! The magazine is of medium-size (100 pages) but printed on very thick, glossy paper, like the Euro fashion magazines. Luvverly!

I love, love, love Threads (have every issue but one, treasure them all and consider them to be the single strongest influence of any on my sewing style and skills through the decades) and hope that the Threads editors, if they see this, explore Irish Quilting a bit. I bet the European quilting perspective would delight them.

As for me, the magazine's Scrappy Irish Charm Quilt might just send me to my stash to fiddle about!

:) Mary

Yes, that is a beautiful quilt.  You think you might make it?

Hiya Rodezzy!!

With the little spare time I have, it'll go on the "wanna do" list for a very long time, but eventually, yes, I hope to make it.

What are you making these days?

Well, I started knitting last night, check out the knitting thread to see what I've done so far.  Nothing fancy just going at it.  Tonight I must cut out a cape I have to get done for my friend in Ohio.  Shes having surgery on her shoulder Wednesday and I want to send it to her by next weekend.  I plan on finishing it tomorrow.  It's a one day project.  She won't be able to raise her arm to wear a coat for three months.  So I'm making a light weight wool cape for her.

What a thoughtful gift! It doesn't surprise me one bit that you'd think of that and whip something up that's just right!
