betsy | Posted in Quilting and Home Decor on

Please help with advice for methods or products to use with fourth grade students hand stitching through appliqued fabrics. It has been difficault for them to sew through fused fabrics.(more detail in “materials ” area; I don’t know who will respond to this question.) Thanks!Betsy

There is a very light weight fusible that is available by the yard called Stitch Witchery.  It should be at your  local fabric store.

Jean, thanks for the quick reply. I'm somewhat familiar with stitch witchery, but didn't think that it would fuse the applique piece to the background cloth. I'd like the applique to be stuck on so that the kids can concentrate on their sewing, not trying to keep track of a shifting or puckered piece. I'll check out the details, thanks!Betsy

Another thought on this project is to use glue stick and just glue the applique pieces down with that. It will wash out so might be worth a thought

I just got back from the fabric store, having had the "I know there is something else I'm supposed to get" feeling.  Glue stick! I'll try it this weekend. Thanks!
