ANGEL Block Swap GUIDELINES

Hi Everyone!

30 people have expressed an interest.
All within 3 days.
And now 5 official Angel Swappers! :)

Rather than rushing to make many blocks, breathe, smile and have fun.
A few blocks with Spirit will be a pleasure to give and receive, imho.
Whatever your time, energy and imagination allow is fine! :)

Guidelines

SWAP TYPE: 1 for 1 Centralized Swap - in British Columbia, Canada
For example - You send 3 and receive 3.

THEME: Celestial - Lovely - Majestic - Mystical - Treasured

Let’s create lasting treasures.
Add sparkle to your blocks with fabric, thread
or
embellishments.
This is not a ‘scrappy or country’ block swap.

BLOCKS DUE: November 29/99 @ Marjiree’s house
RETURN: December 2/99

DESIGNS: NO animal angels, etc.
FOCAL POINT: Angel - (one or more per block)
**You can also appliqué a beautiful angel from a print.
This option requires excellent workmanship &
maybe some embellishing to create depth & interest.

ACCENTS: stars, moon, clouds, hearts, etc are OPTIONAL
Refer to the Techniques section.

FABRIC: NO Flannel, Muslin, Flimsy or Coarse Fabric
High Quality 100% Quilting Cotton
PREWASH, Dry and Iron

BLOCK BASE: Quilting Cotton ONLY.

ANGELS, ETC: Can also include Satin, Silk, Fancies, Velvet, etc.
MAKE A SAMPLE- wash, dry and press. Does it look great?
If you are not sure - don't use it.
*** Test Dark and Bright Colours for Colour Fastness.
VELVETS - Prewash, Dry and Iron 2 - 3 times to prevent
shrinking and colour bleeding.

FABRIC COLOURS: the Block itself OR the Angel’s Body will be .....
- White on White or White
- White with Metallic Stars, Sparkles, Accents
The rest is up to your imagination! :)

LABELS for:
BAGGIE: A Large Baggie to hold all the blocks.
Use a sticky label or masking tape and PRINT your Full
Name, Prov/State & Email.

BLOCKS: Use scrap Fabric or Paper to Label EACH block.
PRINT your Full Name, Prov/State & Email.
NO Pins, Adhesives, Staples OR Writing on the Blocks.

MAILING:
ADDRESS: Join by notifying Marjiree Email: sparkkles@home.com
Marjiree will email her Snail Mail/Home Address.

ENVELOPE: Buy 2 Sturdy envelopes large enough for your blocks.
One is a Return Envelope. Self Address and Stamp.
On BOTTOM LEFT corner OF BOTH ENVELOPES -
Write the Number of Blocks sent.
Put blocks into a large labelled Baggie.
The Post Office sometimes ‘chews and loses’ mail. :(

INSURANCE: Usually replaces lost items only.
Check with the post office.
It is Optional and quite cheap. A good safeguard.

POSTAGE: Return Postage - Weigh one envelope and the baggie of
blocks. ***
*** Add a little more postage since you may receive
the larger blocks. Guestimate.
NO METERED MAIL.

NUMBER of BLOCKS: Unlimited
Guestimate how many you’ll send and Email Marjiree.
Any unswapped blocks will be returned.

SIZE: You can combine patterns & blocks to create these
sizes.

8 1/2” square (unfinished) = 8” square finished
OR 10 1/2” square (unfinished) = 10” square finished

*** Leave a 1” outer border with No Angel ‘Parts’ :)
The size you receive will be a surprise!

TECHNIQUES: It’s your choice!
NO RAW EDGES (other than the block’s edges.)
Press seams well to avoid distortions.

APPLIQUÉ: FUSIBLE WEB is acceptable.
Securely sew and finish all raw edges.
Follow the Manufacturer’s directions.
I use STEAM-A-SEAM 2.

STABILIZER for Machine Appliqué-Stops puckers and pulls.
I use SULKY TOTALLY STABLE Iron-on Tear Away Stabilizer.
Stabilize the entire block - wrong side.
Appliqué and remove gently.

DECORATIVE STITCHES: Securely sew and finish all raw edges
first. Now use decorative stitches (blanket stitch etc.)

EMBELLISHMENTS: OPTIONAL.
Must be Washable and sewn securely. NO GLUE.

PAPER PIECING: scant 1/4” seam allowances. Leave the paper on.

PIECING: scant 1/4” seam allowances.
