Something to look at

Becky-book | Posted in Photo Gallery on

Finally got Julie’s purse finished for her.  Matches dress we did last summer, I messed up the sleeves so she opted for sleeveless. Said it is her favorite dress anyway.

Wow you have been a busy girl now haven't you!!

    Looks fantastic!!

So I see you did a zipper! Well now that is my next challenge for me is sewing a handbag with a zipper...So was this an easy task?

I have done several tote bags with zippers, sometimes getting into a fix because I did not plan ahead.  There are a couple patterns available (McCalls and Butterick) for zippered bags, but Julie opted for a home-grown combination of options so I saved the $$ and made my own 'pattern'. She wanted a substancial zipper and the only one she could find was a separating jacket zip; turned out to be a blessing in disguise.

Bags are fun to whip up out of leftovers so I don't buy patterns for them unless there is something else in the pattern that I want!

I love the purse and also, I love the ribbon you used. Isn't that the prettiest ribbon.

      Hey there, Marcy!

Julie picked out all the colors including the ribbon; was not sure where we would use it at first.  I trimmed the inside pockets and had some left over so I tied it on the strap just for fun!.  I don't know if Julie will leave it there or not.

Great job!  That is really beautiful.  Was the zipper difficult to put in?  Was the purse made from a pattern?

Thanks, I did put a little more than usual into this bag; it is for a friend.  She has 7 sons and no girls, so I like to do girl stuff for her and with her!

The zipper can be tricky to get right, can't take the space to explain it here. (e-mail me your specific questions)

There are patterns for bags available but Julie and I designed this one just for her.  I talked her into letting me quilt it for extra strength and visual interest.

What a lovely spring purse!  I like the inside compartments, looks very organized and user-friendly.  Thanks for sharing the photos.  Love the fabric, it would make me feel pretty to have a dress and purse like that!  Mary

Great work - love this bag and the photos of grandson's ball in other photo post.

Very inspiring but do I start a bag and a ball or finish all the other projects first? LOL!

    Regards Pauline
