My DGS wanted a minkee pillowcase so he chose the colors, designed the layout, etc. Grandma did the cutting (rotarys are sharp!) and the sewing. He is so proud and even more proud when I said I would post it so lots of people could see it! He thought that was really cool. BTW, DGS is just 6 years old. I think he did a super job of choosing colors and how it wanted it laid out………..

Thanks! I think so, too! :-) He's a charmer, too. He's here till Wed. evening......when he goes home the house gets sooooo quiet! Kind of bittersweet......nice to have the toys stay in the toy chest and not all over the house but we sure miss the little guy! :-(
Your DGS did a great job selecting and designing. Next I bet he'll ask to do the stitching. My grandson hasn't asked to sew for a while, now, partly because he received for Christmas an electronic game that goes everywhere with him and occupies him quite a bit. But on his last visit he did bring with him the tiny pillow we created last summer - so I guess he still remembers how much fun it was to do. All our grandchildren are wonder-kids, yes?
Granma and Designer DGS did a fine job! Bet the two of you had fun the whole time! Soon he will be wanting to have you applique designs and do trims! Bravo for both of you. (Can you tell I am jealous!?!) Cathy
We already had to make a second one........he sleeps in a 'big' bed at home and has two pillows.......thus two pillowcases! The second one had to have his name embroidered on it.........he picked neon colors and each letter is a different color. I haven't take a pix of that.........suppose I should before he takes it home tomorrow! He told me this a.m. that he wants to be a designer when he grows up. He is really liking all the attention his pillowcase has gotten........kind of puffed up now! His mom has a line of baby items and some adult items made from minkee so maybe he can design....and be her partner!! :-)
Thanks for looking and for the nice comments! It really is fun to have them take an interest. I have a little DGD coming up that will be the one........she has to have her nose right in there to see what's going on. She's not quite 3 so I'll give her another couple of years and she'll be 'sewing with grandma'!!

I love it. My Mom wears her Minkie PJ's almost to rags and I bet she will love a pillow case out of it. Wow, our Grandson did a great job and I am sure will get many hours of sweet sleep and be the hit at any sleepovers.
Thanks! He does love it.........while staying here, he even carried it downstairs in the morning and snuggled with it while watching his morning cartoons!

Hi Mary.........How are you? I haven't been on Gatherings much lately........busy and just not spending as much time on the computer. I will pass your kind words along. The photo didn't show the colors well, he choose ivory on each side (one looks yellow, the other white!......but they're both ivory) and the blue and green. DD is planning to add them to her line. She's had people ask and she has a price for sewing from the factory so she's going to 'go for it'!! :)
I've been stripping wallpaper for the most of the last week! We have kind of an 'open' floor plan and the same paper was in 2/3 of the main floor..........and it did NOT want to come off! I am stiff, sore and tired but after 5 grueling days, it's gone. We hired a painter so the hardest part is done. We now just have to live in a mess until he's finished. At least that part of the house will be clean when he's through and I clean the carpets before putting the furniture back!! Guess that's one way of doing it, huh?? ha ha It's called "Spring Cleaning the Hard Way"!!
Think Spring!!!!!!!!!! I am so ready for warmer days and rain showers instead of snow!

Oh Bless your heart! I don't envy you all that wallpaper stripping! Whew! Time for a long hot soak in the tub (or hot tub). I'm sure you are glad the worst is over and now the painter can do his magic! What color are you painting? When I had an open floorplan it was more difficult to decide on colors. I'd procrastinate forever, even on ivory...because of the difference in the lighting and high ceilings...it will feel so great when it is all done and you have your house back to "normal".
My studio is the only one left to remove carpet from, hope the hardwood floor underneath is in good shape like the bedroom was. We had to put new hardwood in the living room and put those Mexican Saltillo tiles in the big country kitchen...they broke and cracked so we had to rip all that out and put in Pergo there.
It's been in the mid to high 70's here and I've been out cruising with the top down a few times but we have snow predicted for this week end. Colorado really only has two seasons it seems so the interim is very unpredictable. The trees and my pussywillow have buds that might freeze and then they are at risk for disease this year. (It was 77 here in town and in the 50's in the mountains yesterday when we went for a long drive.) We always dress in layers here. Guess we all have a good case of Spring Fever!
That minkie is really nice looking, love those blue and greens. I haven't sewn with it yet as I've had so many projects going and trying to use up some of my stash fabrics. I haven't been on here much lately so it is interesting to read all the new information and catch up with good friends. Mary
Ha Ha.......I laughed about the indecision.......I'm the same......we finally decided on 'Oyster"..........kind of an off-white that looks best with our furniture. DD came by and looked and said ...."Oh, that's so light".......I said I am color-phobic!! The painter laughed. I would love to replace the sofa, love seat and tables but with the economy such as it is, I'll be satisfied with what we have. It's in great shape........just dated and re-covering can get costly too. At least the curling paper is gone and the walls will be nice and fresh.
Send some of the warmth eastward, would you?? ha ha

My living room is open to both ends of the country kitchen here so I have to be careful too, had to laugh about the "oyster", mine is called "Ivory Linnen" tee hee...dh might as well be colorblind...he painted some of my cupboards the "right" heirloom white and some are a yellowish white and one is even white white....horrors!!! They will have to be redone in the Spring so I have put up with them all winter, ugh! It was alot of work to take them all down and scrub them down to remove years of "Liquid Gold" because they were dark wood, he he....so I can't complain too much, poor guy...
It took me a month to decide on the blue for my bedroom as I didn't want it to look like a nursery...I decorated it like a beach cottage after removing all the lodge at the lake look stuff and the deep green that I was really sick of. It's so much easier to choose fabrics, threads, and fibers!
My grandson was five when he decided to design his first quilt .. a similar project, but in fleece. Last year (he was 11)he asked for and received his first sewing lessons and this fall he selected the pattern and fabric, cut out, and sewed a chef's apron for his grampa and a large tote bag with hidden zipper for his grampa's wife. All I did was use my embroidery machine to put their names where he wanted them. And to think I was (secretly) disappointed to not have a granddaughter to teach how to sew. He'll be able to earn his way through college fixing seams and hems!!! Hope you have as much fun w/your grandson. Marlene
That's quite a story! I don't know that my DGS will get that involved.....even tho' he says so now. He's into hockey and baseball and that will take much of his time. I would love it if he took an interest in sewing as he is the only grand out of 20 that lives really close to us.........about 2 miles! He comes to visit when mom is busy and her work takes her out of town. There are lots of men designers out there..........maybe your DGS will become one of them!
