Kid’s dresses

FirecrackerKTM | Posted in Photo Gallery on

Seemed like a good idea at the time, right??? I promised a bunch of my friends who have kids that I’d make them dresses for their little ones. I like to use the bright cotton prints I’d NEVER use for something I’d wear (although that sunflower twill has possibilities), plus they’re quick and easy.

Oh my goodness, those are so very perfect for kids.  I love the orange with the hat and bottoms.  All are precious.  What lucky friends you have.  They should be kissing your feet.  Just beautiful.  I love to see kids in kid clothes.  Most of the people I know dress there kids in jeans and designer gym shoes.  Just yuck.  I love to see little ones looking sweet and cute.  It's such a short time for them to look that way.  They grow up so fast.  I feel like spring and summer all at once looking at those photos.  Great work.

Thanks for sharing the phots........you have inspired me to make something summery for the two remaining little granddaughters.........the rest are way too old and sundresses are sooooooooo UNcool!

Those dresses are just darling!  I kept thinking "this is my favorite", then another, then another....they are all just so delicious!  Your friends are so blessed to have you, and your talent and generosity!!!  Mary

Thanks guys! The one thing I like to do is pick "pretty" prints over "cutesy" prints. There's enough puppies and kitties crawling all over store-bought clothes. I am going to try rompers next, I found some really pretty striped twill that should work well. I feel bad since some of these gals are friends I've known since grade school, but I moved away a few years ago so I miss their kids' birthdays and stuff.

But now, it's time for stuff for me :)

You are someone that REALLY, I mean REALLY LOVES to sew.  Your friends are very lucky.

OMGosh, what lucky mommies and little girls!  I do hope they expressed their appreciation very loudly.  It looks like you had a great time.  What fun you must have had picking out those lovely fabrics.

Okay, I must go look at girly stuff now.......

Those are adorable!! I've just finished 2 denim and applique dress patterns for our 2 1/2 year old princess, and she wants more! We have 7 boys in our (extended) family and only one girl. We're sure that she got all the estrogen that everyone else would have had - she's just soooo girly! Did you have a pattern for any of those dresses, or did you draft them? I'd love the numbers so I can use up some of my odds and ends, too.
    Thanks ofr showing!

Thanks! THey were patterns. I've never even thought about drafting anything. I sent one to a friend so she could make it, and I don't remember the number, but the others I have are McCall's 5569, 4817 and 4424.

These dresses are so cute!  I like them all, but I have to say that the baby dress with the criss-cross back is my favorite.  You have a good eye for color and coordinating fabrics.  What a really good friend you are to make these!  I hope your friends appreciate all the time and effort it took to make these.

Thanks everybody. I feel kinda silly. Kids' stuff is super, duper easy to make. Way fewer, and smaller, parts.

I love them all, but I guess my favorite is the blue.  Your dresses look like thumbing through a Nordstrom rack with big bucks price tags!  Thank you for sharing.

Firecracker:  Utterly fabulous.  Maybe they are easy for you to make, but they are still such a wonderful gift of your time, creativity and taste.   I really loved the ones for the little ones with the hats and bloomers.  Thanks for posting.  Scrubble4

Wow, you are a busy seamstress. Lucky friends. I love all the dresses, and the yellow one especially - I can just see that on a little dark-haired tot.

Wow!  8 dresses, 2 with hats & bloomers - you did a great job!  Beautiful colours!  What a wonderful friend you were to do that for them.  Yes, you're right - now time to sew for yourself.

I sewed for my daughter all the time when she was growing up. She's now a 37 yr old mom of a 2 1/2 yr old. I still have those patterns! They cost about 85 cents back then, but I don't think the styles change much at that age. I was in Paris looking at dresses and they all seem basic. It's all in the details. How did you pick the sizes? Do they fall true to storebought?

I think they ended up being a bit on the big side. Too bad adult clothes don't also run big compared to RTW, lol.I saw little girls' dresses a lot like the one with the gathered skirt in Target yesterday. They were pretty cute.
