I really enjoyed making this bag. I made a major decision this past year to cut into my “special fabrics”. You can’t take them with you, you know! This is one of my special fabrics, a hand dyed wool. I purchase it probably 15 years ago or so. This piece actually inspired me to try dyeing some of my own woolsback in the day. I put it and the wools I used for the flowers in the washer and dryer to full them and was very pleased with the results.

I was worried that the bag would be too soft and I think justifiably so. The instructions did not call for any type of interfacing. I fused fusible fleece and Decor Bond to the wool as I wanted that bucket effect to my purse. I also fiddled with the lining, adding open pockets and a large zipper pocket, neither of which were called for in tthe directions. I changed the stitches for the embroidery using a back stitch instead of an outline stitch. Most of the embroidery was blanket stitch. I even put my initials on the bag in back stitch, a first.

I have quite a bit of momentum going with these bags and think I will continue making them and using them for Christmas gifts. I think my daughters would like them.

Of course your daughters will love them! What beautiful work, and what a wonderful gift that'll be. I've been working on a bag, too, and it IS fun. Nothing as exquisite as this one, though.

What a beautiful bag!  I love the color, and your handwork is exquisite.  Bags are so much fun to make--you can be so creative with them, and there are no fitting hassles.  I'm sure your daughters will love them.  If not, you can send one my way!  ;-)

Thanks, Mary. For some reason I have always loved working with wool, probably more than any other fabric. It is so doggone forgiving. solo
