This dress is not new, but I’ve never photographed it before.  The inspiration was an article about using tie-dye and resist techniques and household bleach for color-discharging dark fabrics.  On thing led to another and I experimented with all sorts of hues, then began putting color back in after I took it out.  This dress was supposed to have only a line of pansies , but the bleach bled into the fabric and gave a wonderful shaded effect that made me think of graduated heights of flowers in a border garden.

Thanks, Jean.  Say, this picture posting is a real wait and see enterprise isn't it?  Do you knit while you're waiting for pictures to upload?

I have a fast computer and a cable connection so I really don't have time to knit or file my nails. It's very quick.

Tish, that's really pretty. What a great use of a variety of techniques in a single garment!

How do you get so much done???  The dress is lovely and the shadowy effect is beautiful.  Misty spring morning.      rjf

Well, I got that dress done several years ago.  I really went crazy on that one.  That was the project that made me give up on commercial stencils and begin cutting my own.  I wanted and needed delphiniums and was not going to back down!  I have a few more painted dresses, but they are not bleached first.  I have one with spring flowers, similar this one but with tulips too, and a summer wildflowers dress with barn swallows on the frint and back bodice.   Designing and cutting the stencils takes a lot of time, but the painting is fun.

      Thanks for the nice compliments!
