Your dress is lovely.  Wonderful job.

I noticed the hat on the table.  Did you make that too?

Beautiful dress. Yes, you certainly did a wonderful job. Pat yourself on the back!

    Oh, that is just wonderful.

Did you ever see the PBS program called the "1900 House"... getting about to do anything in a corset was a major point.

Also, the Disney film "Pirates of the Carribean" had some pointed comments about corsets!

Congratulations! You look wonderful--love the curvy waistline shape, and you don't look at all restricted in the corset.

Thanks for the compliment.  Yes, in fact, I made the hat as well.  It was so simple you wouldn't believe it!  I took a wide-brimmed straw hat that I had, spray painted it white and laid a square of sheer fabric over the top,  then just started pinning it down with tiny straight pins, bunching and scrunching as I went along.  It looks very similar to the ones I found in books with pictures from that era and a little later, except I didn't add any feathers.

Hi I am a corset maker and costume maker and just wanted to say lovely dress  and nice form (corset).  I love my corsets and sometimes wish we had never discovered the bra or panty hose for that matter, garter belts are the superior.

This is an Edwardian Over-bust style corset and very comfortable to wear - except as I mentioned trying to pick something up off the floor or if you didn't get your socks on BEFORE corseting or driving in a modern car.  The over-bust aspect takes care of the need for wearing both a corset and a bra and the longer line over the tummy helps keep any bulges from forming below the waistline.  It's my preferred style to be sure.

The dress.... I could have gone completely gonzo and gotten more and more elaborate with the layers and the frills and more draping ... more like an evening style gown... but as I mentioned this was July and I already had three layers on (floor length slip, corset, and bodice/skirt).  The styles varied so much toward the end of the19th century I could have taken this design just about anywhere but out here in Colorado the styles were more conservative than in say France or the New York at the time.

I'll probably make another dress to wear over the corset for a Mardi Gras ball this year just to have another reason to wear it and design another dress for it.

Anyone with ideas.... send them my way!  : )
