I am looking for a pattern suitable to make a coat from a heavy Pendleton blanket. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Juliette. Sounds like a cozy idea. I have a pattern from McCalls Crafts vintage 1993 that is designed for jackets made from an afghan or purchased fabric. This may fit the bill for your blanket. The number is 6868. It is a very loose fitting shawl collar jacket or vest, one size fits 6 thru 16. I am unsure if the pattern is still in print, but it shouldn't be too hard to find. Good luck!

*Juliette, Have you considered a capote pattern? If you do not want to line your coat and love to do hand-work it might be something for you to look into. I have made a few from beautiful wool blankets and did the blanket stitching around center front and collar or hood to match. There is very little cutting into the blanket... which I personally liked because I didn't want to disrupt the integrity of the weave. If you are interested look into Northwest Traders, Missouri River, or Eagles View. All of these pattern makers sell through "period" and costume pattern venders. Mine came from an old Alteryears catalog, but there are other companys that sell these. Look in the advertisements in the back part of Threads for the others. You will know them when you see them. Let me know how your coat turns out! Debbie
