help with historic pattern  (post #36408)

I'm about to start civil war re-enacting.  I found a period chemise pattern from a civil war era magazine. It gives directions and pattern pieces but not a scale or ratio to tell me how many times to enlarge the pattern. If someone could tell me how to get started or what drafting technique to use, I think I'll be okay. I'd like to use the methods a mid 19th century woman would have used.  Or a modern technique that wouldn't depend on a photocopier to enlarge the pieces. I do have a plastic tool (french curve?) I got at a sewing seminar  but haven't used it.   I've already made basic middle ages clothing without commercial patterns and would put my sewing abilities as within the intermediate category.
