Alter Jacket Pattern from Buttons to Zip

shannonmgarvey | Posted in Patterns on

Hello all. I’m interesting in making a fitted jacket but the pattern is intended for buttons and I would like to have a zipper up the center instead. Any suggestions on how to alter the pattern to do this?

If the center front runs straight on the grain, then take the center front line to be your seam line and add seam allowances to that.  Use a separating zipper and remember to make corresponding changes to any facings.

What to do about the hem depends on how the pattern intended it to be finished.  If you get the facing right the hem should take care of itself.

    Hope this helps,

    Becky
