Hi, I’ve been absent for a while, but it’s not because I’ve been sewing…none-the-less, I am looking for (both would be nice!!) a straight/pencil skirt pattern that has an inlaid pleat in the back. If you know of such a pattern please let me know, or if you can tell me how to add the pleat please tell me how to add it.
Next, I too am looking for a swing coat pattern that has a standup collar (like the Doris Day look from the ’50’s). I’ve seen lots of swing coat patterns but none with this type of collar. Again, if you do not know of such a pattern will you explain to me how to add this collar.
As always I’m looking to your expertise.

Hi Wanda. You might check out Vogue 2988. It's not a swing coat, but it does have the 50's stand-up collar. Cynthia
Thanks for the referral; however, I could not find the pattern on Vogue's site. Is this pattern listed on the SewVintage website that was previously recommended?
Hi Wanda. Actually, the problem may be that the pattern is too new. It's not yet on their website either. It's on the cover of the August/September 2007 issue of Vogue Patterns magazine, though. Perhaps there's a delay between the magazine publication date and when the patterns actually hit the stores or their own website.
Thanks for directing me to the source for the pattern. Guess what? Of course you never would, but I found the pattern that I'm looking for, both the jacket and the skirt with the inlaid (kick) pleat!! I have it here at home!! It was in a box. The pattern is Simplicity 4047, 1950's Retro Collection.
I checked Pattern Review to look at the garments that were made from this pattern. I liked them all, however, the jackets seemed short on all of the people that were pictured. That problem could easily be remedied through lengthening the pattern. And, of course the skirt is a no brainer.
Most likely, I will try this pattern out for myself from linen before I make it for my friend as her fabric is a really, really lightweight cotton.

Great news! I tend to collect patterns as rabidly as I do fabric. It's always fun to sit down and go through the patterns. I'm always surprised to find something I've forgotten I had or that I look at differently now. Have fun. Can't wait to see pictures of the jacket and skirt when you're finished. Cynthia
You are very kind. Thank you. Since I wrote the last update, I found a nice brown tweed that may very well go with this pattern and a winter skirt I started last year, and I may (for now) nix the beige linen. I just said to someone earlier this evening that as slow and meticulous as I am about sewing I may as well start on winter clothes! So this fabric stash find may very well do the trick in getting me started back to sewing.
