Which oversized/megahoop for embroidery

nanamusic | Posted in Machine Embroidery on

I’m considering purchasing one of the oversized/mega hoops for my embroidery machine.  I’m wondering how often most of you use the larger hoop and if you feel it is worth the investment.  I have the Bernina 185 embroidery machine.  Which size is best? Do you know of a place to buy a hoop more reasonable than the Bernina dealer? The last I checked, most were around $400.00!!!

Perhaps a few questions to ask yourself might be:  How often do you use your embroidery machine now; what (and how many) projects to you anticipate in the future; do you really enjoy using your embroidery machine rather than "normal" sewing type projects.

For example:  I got all excited when I bought the largest hoop made for my machine (Pfaff 2170).  I'm happy with it in that I think that I think it is important to buy the hoops made specifically for your brand of machine.  However ...I've never used it, and I've had it for several years.  I suspect I will, but for now at least, it sure hasn't been worth the expense.  I let the excitement make my decision rather than really thinking about what kinds of projects I would be doing and how many (i.e. if the cost could be justified.)

Anyway, I hope maybe my experience might be helpful to you.  If you do get one, I sure do hope you will share some of your ideas for projects with all of us.  And even if you don't get it now, please share any thoughts for using that large hoop.  I would love for someone to give me a push in the right direction.  Either way, enjoy the journey and have fun with whatever you decide to do.
