Pre Wound Bobbins

user-217847 | Posted in Machine Embroidery on

Hello every one,

I have been trying out some of the designs from emblibrary and I’ve simply had it with bobbin winding. It’s really taking the pleasure out of embroidering, I have a Janome 11000, ask the dealers they tell you to stick with Janome brand, also belong to the Echidna Club they recomend their brand. they are both good threads,  both sell in packs of 15 Jan. or 20 for the Echy. either way it will cost a fortune in the long run. My question to you, Do you use pre wound bobbins? if so what brand do you use, and how do you purchase it? by that I mean quantity. I will be very greatful for your responses.

Warmest regards,

wombat

I prefer Sulky bobbin thread and winding my own.  I have used Nebs prewound bobbins with good results on my Husq/Viking machines.

I use Nebs pre-wounds except the rare occasion where I want the same color on the backside.......and free-standing lace.  I like the Nebs and seem to have better results than winding my own bobbins........not sure why that is!  Anyway, I bought a gross of them from The Sewphisticated Stitcher.  They usually have them on sale for about $40 (US) for the gross......plus shipping.  For my money, that's a good deal......and it truly saves tons of time.  The pre-wounds seem to last longer ........probably more thread on them and they're always evenly wound.  I sew with a Designer SE but I doubt that matters...........they should work just fine.

    Happy Stitching!

Wow, how did I miss this site!  Sewphisticated Stitcher.com is now on my list of favorites.

I have the Babylock Ellegante and my dealer recommended using Nebs.  They work better than the ones I wound on the machine - last longer too!

Yep, they do for me, too.........both better and longer!  I think they create less bulk as well because the thread is very fine.....and strong!

Cute, must be from the telephone text msg craze.  I have never sent a text message.

          5. Crazy K | | #15

I saw it prior to that craze.......email shorthand, too, perhaps.  I have used text messaging but only a few times......just kind of for fun.  Mostly when my daughter was vacationing overseas and her son was here.  It's kind of nifty for me since I can't talk on the phone due to hearing loss.  I do o.k. (not great but o.k.) in person but not so good on the phone.

I was a text message virgin until this week when I had to text my son a phone number he needed.  He didn't have a pen handy.  Mary

I have used Echidna bobbin thread for years - first with a Pfaff 7570 and more recently with Janome 300E. I don't mind winding my own bobbins (I do a few at a time and it doesn't really take long) and I believe it is more economical. Leaves me with more money to spend on other things(!).

I have also used Echidna bobbin thread for yonks, never a problem. Since my purchase of the Janome 11000 the thread on the bobbin is much less than with the 10000, I now need 3 to the usual 2, (theres nothing wrong with the winding). Echidna sells pre wound bobbins 20 to the packet which is great normally. When I embroider for my sister and her girls, bulk is less expensive.

      bevaau,

I called into A local Janome shop, mentioned the Echidna pre wound bobbins I was told to use only Janome or Echidna bobbin thread. Janome original $20. For 12. Echidna has theirs on sale $15. for 20. Go figure

Really too bad you can't use the Nebs.........$40 for 144 ........that's quite a lot less expensive.  Good thread, too.  Guess the tight-wad in me would be tempted to buy one or two bobbins and try it.  My Viking dealer sells Nebs, too, but they're much more expensive there.  Sometimes I think this dealers/companies tell you something won't work when in reality it will.........it just doesn't line their pockets!  I don't think you could do harm to your machine.....unless the problem is that they just don't fit.  You would know quickly one way or the other!!

        Happy Stitching!

          Hi Kay,

I went to the site you recomended, checked the chart for the correct size for the Janome, which happens to be the same size as the Echidna bobbins. Checked back this past Monday.ordered them, lucky me they were on sale. Now I just wait on there arrival. I am truely greatful for your advise.

          Warmest regards,

            Me again,

I would also like to know what you think of the bobbins, being a Janome 350e user.

I use the Echidna bobbin thread and wind my own.

          Hello all

          Interesting topic.

          Superior Threads have pre-wound bobbins.

There is a partial list of sewing machine makes (on their website) that are compatible with L style bobbins.

With cotton thread or polyester thread.

          http://www.superiorthreads.com/index.php

I am not connected in any way with them.   I receive their Newsletter and have ordered from them and am very satisfied.

          K.
