Someone asked about breaking thread when embroidering, and I cannot seem to find the tread; thus a new thread with a couple of suggestions.
First of all, I strongly recommend the book: “Machine Quilting with Decorative Threads” by Maurine Noble and Elizabeth Hendricks. It goes well beyond machine quilting, and covers thoroughly working with all different types of decorative threads, etc.
Next, I was given a handout in a class some years ago, and I have a copy of it attached. I apologize to the instructor (whoever you are) for not giving you credit, but the handout has no name on it and I don’t recall where I got it. I do recall asking the instructor is she worked for Isacord thread company as she really liked the product, but no …she didn’t work for them, or any other thread company, nor did the handout come from Isacord.

Thank you, rekha; I have no idea how to do that, so I really appreciate you doing it. I hope you also find the article interesting, if not helpful. Not everyone uses decorative threads.
Anyone can do it.
All you need is a scanner and some sort of software like Photoshop.
You print the .doc
Scan the document
Scan to: a drop down menu lets you choose email (Outlook), Microsoft Word, and Adobe Image etc....
I saved your doc as an image .psd which I converted to .jpg in Photoshop

Thanks, rekha. I do have a great 3-in-1, but it's still in my apartment down in the states. All I have here is my laptop. Also, I don't have all the software that you mentioned, but maybe someday I'll invest in it.

Re your document, I didn't know that all polyester threads aren't the same.
Why is Isacord so different from other polyester threads
Thank so much, Sewslow - very interesting. Your attachment opened fine for me, but that's nice of Rekha changing it to jpg for others. Where can the Isacord thread be purchased? I've never heard of it before. I don't have an embroidery machine, but I do use rayon thread for embroidery stitches on my machine & have had success with it. I'm still fiddling with the metallic threads, though.

Thanks JQ; I also did a search on Google last night, but unfortunately, I didn't confine it to Canada, and the results I found were in the US. I thought I'd do another one today, but you beat me to it. Thanks for doing that and sharing it. Now that I'm in Canada, your search will be helpful to me as well.
I bought all mine in the US when I lived in Portland, OR ...and I haven't found a source here yet. I do like the Isacord thread though, and found the same results as the person who wrote that article. I've not only used it for embroidery, but also for top stitching and it looks lovely.
As I mentioned to JunkQueen, I'm going to request my usual online sewing notions supplier in Canada to stock Isacord, as it does sound superior. The only source on Google was eBay Canada, & the price is very prohibitive - & in US dollars, too :(.

I was kind of slow on responding, so I appreciate JQ doing the research. I don't recall exactly what I paid for mine but, as I remember it was about $3.50 a spool. The spools are fairly good sized though, with 1,000 meters on each spool. And they do come (as you noted) in just beautiful colors.
Must get back to the kitchen. My husband picked a whole bunch of Saskatoon berries and he is expecting a pie for dessert tonight. ;-) ...and I do love baking of any kind, esp. pies.
Oooo - Saskatoon pie! Yummy! Will hubby also roll out the pastry for you or has your shoulder improved enough already? We made cherry & blueberry pie last night for dessert, but it was too hot to serve, so we'll enjoy it tonight. Enjoy yours!
As for the Isacord thread, if we can find it anywhere, it'll probably cost more than $3.50 here. You were lucky to buy some. I, too, am searching to find a supplier in Canada, but I'll request that my online Canadian sewing supplies company order it in, anyway.

I have recently looking at the McPhee Workshop site (they have a sewing retreat in Edmonton in October and was considering it), and if anyone in Canada can find it, or maybe even carries it, it will be them.
No, MacPhee Workshop sells absolutely no thread of any kind, very little (2 items) of sewing supplies & only a couple of tools, but they do have zippers, etc. & embellishments & lots of fabric. JunkQueen provided us with MaryeAnne's Sewing Studio in Stevensville ON & she has a large selection of threads, including Isacord. See her post a couple before yours in this thread.
Do you receive the MacPhee newsletter each month? I hope you enjoy the retreat, if you decide to go. They are always great fun & Linda is such a hoot. She had a good show at the Creative Stitches in Edmonton in March, with all of her patterns being modelled & tips on how to further change and embellish them. I have several of her patterns.

Yes ...yummy indeed. And yes ...I had help with the rolling of pie crust. Thankfully, my right shoulder is OK, but the left one (the one that got severely damaged) is not healing at all, nor is my knee ...and they both look infected. I'm going to try going without bandages today (wear short sundress with strap-ties at the shoulders so nothing will rub) to see if the fresh air will help the healing. If not, it's back to see the doctor.
My face looks like I was in the ring boxing with the great Mohammad, and lost miserably. It seems like the bruising looks worse each day that passes. LOL! The deep wounds on my hands are finally starting to heal as well as elbow ...so there is progress there.
Since I have only five weeks until the reunion, I need to get busy sewing too. So I'm going to try to get a dress cut out today. My cutting table is still down south in my apartment, so I'll have to use the cutting board and put it on the bed ...which is difficult now. I will be glad when we get everything moved up here as I miss my all "things". But ...we want to get the addition on the house first. Everything takes time and patience is the key word here. ;-) Must run for now. Have a great day!
You will be glad when you finally have all of your stuff. I, too, cut out my fabric on my bed & it's darn hard on the lower back, even though my bed is quite high, but we do what we must to accomplish what we will.
I do hope your shoulder & knee are not infected - are you on antibiotics? Hopefully, the airing out today will help. That's great to hear that your other wounds are healing nicely. The face bruising must have been quite deep to be still coming to the surface. Next week you'll start looking yellow & green, but you'll be your own lovely self by the time of the reunion. Take care.

Thanks muchly, JunkQueen. As Sewslow states, there doesn't seem to be a source in Canada. The ones on Google were US & world-wide. There was a listing for eBay Canada, but the price was in US funds only ($9.90 for 2 spools US, $24 for Canada in US funds) - so there is NO WAY I'm paying that much when our Cdn dollar is almost on par with US & has been for the past year or so (but that's another rant for another day, but VERY annoying) - so much for free trade :(.
The colours are great, though, & the write-up is very interesting, so I'll see if my usual Cdn. online sewing supplies place will order some. Thanks again.
