Embroidery Machines

janrn777 | Posted in Machine Embroidery on

Embroidery machines–Foolishly, when I bought my Viking Quilt Designer I didn’t think I would ever want any embroidery functions.  Dumb.  Now, I want something that I can design with, and moving up to the Designer I or II with professional software when I have a perfectly functional sewing machine will be a big bite out of my budget.

I have been thinking about finding an embroidery-only machine like the Singer CE100 that will hook up to my computer.  Will this do it for me?  Or will it be another expensive mistake?

Just wanted to let you know my opionion re the singer futura 100,

I am pretty sure it is a sewing machine and an embroidery machine.  I have the 200.

It does both, although I use it mostly for embroidery.  I have researched machines for the last 3  years.  I could not justify spending the money on a designer one or the high end bernina model.  But they are both temping and do many wonderful things.

I am happy with my decision  of the Futura 200.  It has the ability to read and re-format  most any design.  It uses your computer, so whatever size your screen is, that will be the screen you will work with on the designs.  I think the machines stitches out nicely.  It comes with all software included, so you don't have to buy anything else.  For the money, it is a great machine and I think compairs with many other more expensive models.

Also, Singer posts new designs monthly. And their tech support is great, they have a live number and an email site.

    Thanks for listening

Please take a look at the Designer 1 in the Viking line.  I am sure you have already but I have just a couple of thoughts on this subject.  First consider if you really want your computer tied up with the sewing machine. Will you still be able to work in the computer with the embroidery running?  Second although I know that it is a bit more expensive you will have lots of options with the D1 as it is the only machine that I know that can be upgraded over the internet. Since I bought my machine 4 years ago there have been numerous upgrades that I have down loaded from their website.  Also since everything is loaded on floppies I do not have to have anything tied to my computer allowing me to work on other projects as I am embroidering.  Third thing that I want to mention the D1 is a work horse and has proven it to my time and time again with the type of materials that it can embroider on with no trouble.   Just some thoughts.

I was in the same situation as you are - owning a perfectly good sewing machine, but wanting embroidery capability.  You might want to look at the Janome 300E.  My DH bought me one for Christmas and I've been very happy with it.  Although it doesn't connect directly to your computer, it has many of the 'extra' features available on the high end combo machines.  It uses Compact Flash cards, which move easily from the computer to the machine.  They are capable of holding a lot of embroidery designs and are re-writable.  There are many programs out there that will convert designs from other formats into .jef format.  I am not sure that is true for the embroidery format used by Singer.

    NAYY - just a happy 300E owner!
