embroidery machines

sfmaca | Posted in Machine Embroidery on

Hi! Does anyone know about the type of embroidery machine used in Threads most recent issue (#103) about Manuel Cuevas (page 72)? I love the free motion abilities of this machine, and currently own a straight stitch only industrial sewing machine (an old Consew). I especially like the idea of controlling the stitch width with a knee pad. Any advice appreciated!

Hi. I can't answer your question about Manuel's studio embroidery machines, but will forward it to David Coffin, who edited the article. He may be able to help you out. I suspect that the machine is custom-fitted to allow for changing stitch width with the knee control, but from what I understand, the process is otherwise completely free-motion. If you can steer your fabric with one hand, and use the other hand to change the width of your zigzag stitch, you can duplicate the technique. Ha Ha! That's the idea, anyway, but the embroiderer in the video is pretty amazing, and I highly doubt that I, for one, could come even close to what he does, even if I had the right machine!

    Carol
