Hey guys! I am brand new to the world of Machine Embroidery. I just bought my Viking Iris machine a couple weeks ago, and havent pulled it out of the box yet (ya I know, Ive been busy). I have however been doing a lot of research on the internet about stuff. I even bought some Amazing Designs packs already. The problem I am having is trying to match the colors they used. You see, the disk packs come with what is called GNC format and the colors are basic names like Red, Light Brown, Vermillion (??) and Gray and stuff like that. I wish to God they had given a list of Sulky or Madeira numbers! I want my embroidery to look like it does on the package cover, but I dont want to spend time using my customizing software trying different colors to get a match. Do you have any suggestions on what to do? Has anyone used these Amazing Designs?
I got a memory card from AD also, but thankfully it has a list of Sulky numbers!!

Hi, I have used Amazing Designs and I love their work... plus there is so much of it.
but I never follow the colors suggested anyway, it's like using paint out of the tube vs mixing your own shades (smile) .
I hear ya. But I think because I am an engineer I like to follow what the designer does! Oh well.

that's a good observation because people have so many ways of approaching the same project. like my sister-in law always follows a recipe card no matter how many times she has made a thing. And I like winging it.
and in any art/craft project I think that there should always be a mistake or element of the totally unpredictable to humble us as humans. Sewing is a zen experience.
You are correct on that one. I guess I will try to use my "creative side" more!

check out annthegran.com, she has lots of great links and a thread colour conversion chart, it does not include amazing designs but does give the brother colours which are names like "vermillion" etc with corresponding #'s for sulky , madeira and isacord
