   http://www.knittersreview.com is an excellent site. The forums are fascinating; there's a great deal of sharing and problem-solving - just like Gatherings.

   Oh, Jan, there's tooooo many sites to recommend! But I did have to mention Knitting Help. That's how I learned to knit 3 or 4 years ago. They have so many free videos. I sat in front of my computer and kept hitting replay till I got it!

   I became obsessed very quickly.

   Thank you Rhetta - I haven't been on the site for a while - can't seem to get the time - but your suggestions were timely - I have had a student teacher with me for a few weeks - who spent last lesson of yesterday trying to show 20 15 yr old girls how to cast on and do plain knit
   boy was it a good thing that her university examiner didn't come in to watch her lesson.
   She said afterwards "I didn't realise that it would be so difficult"!!
   I think she learnt the hard way that knowing how to do it - and then trying to teach it in a hours lesson - are not 2 of the same thing at all!
   I can now show her your suggested websites for help!

   You're so right.  I have a couple friends who know how to knit a bit.  I try to show them how I "read" my knitting and don't just blindly follow a pattern.   Well, it wasn't working.  They felt stupid.  I told them it isn't you - it's my teaching.  I may be able to knit, but I can't teach!  I'm working on that!

   If you are looking for free patterns for everything from accessories to baby items and home decorating plus men's and women's items, take a look at http://www.garnstudio.com

   There are hundreds of patterns from DROPS pattern books. The DROPS magazines are very expensive and the patterns are reliable. It will take you a full day to see them all. This is a Norwegian site and you click on the little flags (either US or Britain) for English. There is also a forum, very interesting to follow.

   Thank u so much for letting me know about this site - mind u - I looked at the number of pages for ladies stuff - and realised I would have to allocate another time to browse - so many!!
   No reason not to have something to knit - although i'm getting into knitting for felting now!
