Harmony Wood needles
My new Harmony wood needles are here!!!!! They are gorgeous and I really like the smooth transition between the needle and the cable, plus the small diameter of the cable allows the project to slide really smoothly, much more like permanent circular needles than my Denise interchangeables. The DPN sock needles look great, too. I'll be starting a pair of socks on them right away as I also got a dozen skeins of sock yarn as long as I was ordering stuff. Time to get after my Christmas knitting projects!

I'm winding my new sock yarn into balls this afternoon and trying to decide which yarn I want to knit up first--decisions, decisions! I suppose I should knit up the second sock of the pair I've got started before I begin a new pair!

Is your yarn in skeins, Annie? What did you get?

Technically it's "balls" not the twisted skeins like hand-dyed yarns, but I like true, round balls that I can drop in a bowl to work from, not the mechanically balled.

Oh, forgot to mention that its the Essentials fingering weight from Knit Picks. I got two balls of each color and it looks like that should work up into a pair of knee-hi's in each color. Our house has cold floors and I like wool knee-hi's for winter.

Sure--now that I've figured out how resize my pictures, it's so easy that there's no reason not to. I'm planning to have some fun with my new socks, cables and stuff. Usually, I just knit for utility, but I'm going to have some fun with these yarns.

Tee hee hee hee, I have a whole box of it, dark chocolate mega bars from Hershey. DD1 went to the factory this summer and stocked me up on it. I would be willing to share if I could figure out how to stuff it through the little teeny weeny cables attached to my computer....teee hhheeee hee hee Cathy

This summer?? and you still have some?! What self discipline....Never fear, I'm training up a carrier pigeon - he'll be bringing you some boiled wool yardage in exchange just as soon as I sew him a little carrier bag. Mind you, maybe one of these magnificent Alpine eagles might do a better job.

They aren't cheap, but once in awhile I like to splurge and treat myself. I see this as a long-term investment, so was able to talk myself into them. I'm knitting a hat for one of my other daughters with Koigu yarn on the #1 Harmony DPNs that I got and I'm loving them. They have all the features I look for in my needles.
The Koigu was another splurge, and one that I'd never make for myself, but it's going to make a stunning Christmas gift!

How are the points? I like wood needles but I need a nice point for lace.

Very fine--I've been thinking that they'd be really good for lace work. I'm knitting with Koigu on my size 1 needles. The Koigu is comparable to a fingering or sock yarn and I really like these fine points for working with it. The points on even the larger needles in my interchangeable set are nice and fine, too. One of the things I don't like about some of my bamboo needles is how blunt the points are. That's fine if I'm knitting a fuzzy yarn like Lion Brand "Homespun" but most of my knitting is done with traditional smooth yarns and the blunt points just slow me down.

Yes, thats why I haven't bought any of those bamboo needles at JoAnn's or anywhere. The points are too blunt. I have some at home with blunt tips and I know I don't like them with smooth yarns either. Good to get some feed back about that. Man! just reading this forum teaches me so much and I get answers and feedback all the time. Thanks guhys. You're the greatest!
