Black & White Outfit? Will I make it?
Wow, nothing on the crochet/knit postings since my last sock episode. Well I finished a shawl for a dance I attended Last Sunday. I’ll take good pictures of it for next week. Now, I’m planning (thinking about) creating a black and white outfit for a Black & White Dressy Affair given by my new line dancing instructor and her crew to be held in August. I’ve always wanted to crochet a complete outfit, so now here’s the challenge I needed. I have a definite goal and time frame with which to do it. Now I’ve somewhat committed myself by running off at the mouth on this site. So, I guess I need to put my hook where my mouth is (giggle). I’ll try. Nothing beats a failure but a try. So on with the designing. I’ll keep you posted. Please keep me encouraged, I need encouragement to push me with this one. Can I do it? And can I make it look great!?

Rodezzy, you will, no doubt, succeed, as usual. Your successful output is amazing! I would suggest that you make your outfit sleeveless (or cap sleeved) or won't it be too hot in August to wear it? Line dancing is a lot of exercise (or is it a more formal dance)? Or, make the top out of cotton yarn - that would be a bit cooler, eh? Let us know what style you choose & we'll happily urge you along :)

Yee Haaa! I'm on my way. Starting Saturday night, I decided to make use crocheted interlocking circles for the neckline of my crocheted top. On Sunday afternoon thru the evening, I completed the front and back of the top in triple crochet.
The neckline of interlocking circles is slightly off the shoulder in Aunt Lydia's Double Strand cotton thread, one strand is black the other white (puuuurfect). I purchased three balls in April for 40% off each; just because!
I had about 3 1/2 skiens of Red Heart Luster Sheen in black that I've had for about four years. I used it to make the front and back panels connected to the interlocking circles. The first row in dc and the rest in trc. I then connected them on the sides with two rows of trc. Now, I haven't decided what exactly to do yet, I had to put it down and go to bed. Had to come to work today. he he. But I'm trying out a method of making crocheted yoyo's without ending off each one, connecting them in a string of yoyo's. Turning out O.K. Thinking of using them as edgings for the front & back panel. It's just evolving as I go.
At least the top is almost done. I saw a lot of pretty skirts for the summer this weekend in black or white and blk & wht prints. May just buy a skirt, nothings written in stone.
I'm playing with the idea of using the interlocking circles for a waist on a skirt, if I crochet the skirt. Wish me luck.
Oh, rodezzy, it sounds like you're having fun and bubbling with creativity. I'd love to see a photo of what you're doing.I've been away for more than a week, so just now saw your message. I'll bet you've long since finished your top. It sounds so lovely and summery.

Yes, the basic top is finished but not fine tuned. I have some finishing to do. Haven't dealt with it yet. I've desperately been trying to make a skirt. I frogged another skirt just Saturday night that looked a fright on me. Oh well, I may just leave the skirt alone. I can make the top stand out and wear a RTW skirt. The top is in the photo gallery.

I'm going hunting for your photo as I answer your question about what I was doing while away...I had a wonderful time traveling with family and extended family to Vancouver, BC, where my son (age 37) was competing in the 2008 World Triathlon. We spent several days in Vancouver, then went back to Seattle for a few days, and to Mt. Rainier. Had to leave Mt. Rainier sooner than we planned because we weren't prepared for the freezing weather and snow, with drifts up to 3 feet high! But, my oh my, it was beautiful. I was enthralled with the whole trip.Now I'm going to spend some of this wonderful summertime at my sewing machine, experimenting with some of the things inspired by folks on this forum. There's so much I want to try!
Just read your post and I have to say that my vacation to Seattle and Vancouver was one ofthe most beautiful things of my life.I was 13 then now 53 but remember it was so awesome, I'd love to go again and share it with my husband. What beautiful country ! Susan
Oh, yes, you're so right. For one thing, the flowers (rhododendron - oh my gosh!) blooming everywhere, the beautiful plantings on the city streets were tapestries of many textures and shades of green. People were so friendly and helpful. It was lovely. Even the rain couldn't put a damper on the trip. It was a repeat visit for me and my husband - 39 years separating first visit from second! A few changes occurred in the meantime. We were tent-camping in 1969 - took the whole summer - 80 days - and drove from GA to the west coast, up the coast, ferried to Victoria from Seattle and then to Vancouver, drove back east through the Okanagen to Banff, then south again into the US, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah and Colorado, then back east to GA. We took in just about every national park along the way, and many wonderful state parks. I highly recommend that kind of trip to everyone. Every state has its own unique wonders. This time I appreciated the Pacific NW (SW, I guess, for Canada) much more. I see why it's such a draw for so many. I don't think I could live in the relative gloom of overcast skies and drizzly rain, but it was wonderful to visit there. The cities are so beautiful in themselves. The museums in Seattle and Vancouver have so much to offer. Mt. Rainier, cold as it was, was majestic, awe-inspiring.So much for my raving. What was it that so impressed you about Seattle and Vancouver, at the ripe old age of 15?
Absolutely everything that you just said.I had an Aunt Mary who lived in Seattle, it was the only family vacation I remember ever going on, my first flight on a plane and oh yes the fabulous scenery, just breathtaking. I thought it was so fun making snow balls on MT. Rainier in June. What a blast, thanks for reminding me of it, unfortunately my parents died very early , Mom when I was 19 and Dad when I was 26, so it brings back a wonderful time I spent with them.I'd love to do the drive thru all the states. Isn't it great to have family experiences like that, and wonderful to feel grateful for the memories of them? My father died, too, when I was 16, and I well remember the last trip we took as a family.
