I have a couple of light weight ready-made tops that I don’t wear because they ride up when I raise my arms. And, they are so light weight that they don’t fall back into place when I lower my arms. They do not fit snugly around the hips and i think the problem would be solved if the hemline had more weight. My first thought was drapery weights/chain. Is there anything else that anyone has used to solve this problem? Both of the tops are washable silk and I would really like to wear them.

Weighted Hemlines
Hi Ralphetta'
In Couture Sewing Techniques by Claire Shaeffer she says that Chanel uses brass chains and round weights - other couturiers have weighted blouses with - wide hems - bands - bindings - embroidery - ribbon - braid trims - buttons - small glass beads.
Hope this is of help. Marika
weighted hemlines
Thanks. I'd already decided that chain was going to be too bulky. Maybe I can find a very thin, but heavy trim. I was hoping someone might know of something thin but heavy that I could thread through the hem. Maybe I can use tiny metal beads...and be sure to stay away from magnets!
I recall that you used to be able to get a thin metal cord to weigh down curtains - looks much the same as I have for a plastic cord to open and adjust vertical blinds - might be worth checking out.

Me too
I too have a blouse like that. It's made of voile and floats like gossamer. Well, that may be an exaggeration, but it does not hang like I want it to. I've thought of threading twill tape through the hemline. I've also considered retro fitting a rayon lining in it. I agree that, while chains are perfect for wools and such, they would be far to bulky for such a sheer fabric. I hope someone has a good solution. I will be monitoring this thread in hopes of that.
get a bohemian style with beads or fringes
might solve your problem? I know what everybody means with the weights, but they could be kinda bulky and might be visible and not pretty. & then you might have to conceal your weight and the weight might not balance well with the silk since silk is so airy and lightweight. A string of beaded fringes might be prettier for you.
