Trying to pleat chiffon material for top

Evelyne | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi there.  Can anyone give me tips on gathering/pleating chiffon.  Am making a top for my daughter and it is gathered from top of shoulder to the centre front – into a empire line.  Am trying to pleat each side seperately.  Are there any tricks/tips?

Thanks.  Evelyne

Maybe you can zig zag over some crochet thread and work the pleats in from there? Maybe....

Thanks for the idea.  Have been trying since discussions to pleat and found that by using the FHS knee lever (Free hand sewing) on my Bernina was able to stitch then lift the foot and, with my 2 hands free, was able to fold the chiffon to a pleat and then bring down the foot and anchor with a stitch again and continue doing this until the length of material was pleated - wonderful actually.  So thanks again - practice does make, sort  of perfect.  I love my Bernina!
