Trouble Making a Dress Coat

HauteCoutureGurl | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hello,

I have a question about making a Dress Coat.  I have made two coats in the past, the coats turned out perfect the only problem I have is when I put the coat on and then buttoned, both right and left bottom corners curl inward at the bottom and leave a gap of about an 1½”.  I have a Couture Sewing book which instructs to add an inch on both sides and draw an straight line from the added inch to the top of the neck line.  PLEASE HELP

So, did you add this extra inch?

If you still had the curling corners, perhaps either the hem-stitching or the lining is too snug - ?  Just guessing here - I've never made a long coat, though I do have a couple of fabric-and-pattern sets in my "Round Tuit" pile....

Let us know what works, please!

    Hi,

Did you lengthen/shorten the dress? and maybe forgot to alter facing?

You will have to unpick hem  and hang garment on a stand ( or coat hanger) to identify the problem.

    Louise
