   Hi, there are some great fabric stores in Toronto!  It depends on how mobile you are and where you are visiting.

   There are quite a few fabric stores/jobbers downtown on Queen St. just west of Spadina.  Worth a visit are The Wool House, Macdonald Faber and Mokuba Ribbons (if you have a few hours and lots of $$!!)  Also cheap notions are available in some of the jobber-type stores.  This is where tailoring supplies are as well.

   If you travel quite a bit further west on Queen St. there is a HUGE store called Designer Fabric Outlet.  The first floor is home dec, the upper floor is fashion fabrics and there is a whole huge area of trims.  They have some of everything and a wide price range.

   Uptown there is a fabulous store at Yonge/Lawrence on Yonge St. called Maryan's Fabrics.  It is a block north of the subway stop.  They carry high end (and I mean high, probably the prices average $100/m or more) designer and couturier fabrics from Europe.  Also there is Premiere Fabrics at Davenport/Dupont, again with designer/couturier fabrics but they have remnant racks where you can get lengths that are marked down.

   You can get notions and thread at some of those stores, but most carry only a limited selection.

   There are two chains with various locations (look in the phone book), Bouclaire which is about 50% fabric and 50% bath/home dec items.  They carry patterns and notions etc. 

   I work at the other chain, Fabricland (Ellesemere and Warden location in the east end near the major highway)  My store is pretty big, with the top floor home dec fabrics and the lower floor fashion fabrics.  There is always one pattern company on sale, and fabric deals to be found.  The best things right now (IMHO) in the store are some Menswear Suiting ends from Armani which are very lovely for $5.99 Cdn/m (they are not marked Armani, as I work there I know where they come from!), some rayon/spandex doubleknit for $12.98/m and some great quality poly matte jersey and stretch knits for tops at $9.98 - $12.98.  Most of these fabrics would be available at our other locations as well -- if you are from the USA, remember all these prices are in Cdn and are by the meter which is 39"

   Yes, Queen St. west of Spadina is the area to check out...FANTASTIC fabricsof every kind,  in every price range...there is even a store that carries pretty much nothing other than those fabulous Chinese brocades in every shade and colour!  I recommend you take the public transit; parking in TO is HELL. You can either get off at "Osgoode" station on the University line or "Queen' on the Yonge line and take the streetcar WEST to Spadina ("Spa-DYE-nah", not "Spa-dee-na") and get of and continue walking West. (if you like beads there are some GREAT bead stores as well.) OR you can get off the subway at "Spadina" station (NOT "Spadina West" station; that's a DIFFERENT station altogether) and take the streetcar south to Queen Street, where you should proceed WEST (you can always tell where 'south' is in downtown TO because of the CN tower, and because Toronto runs 'foursquare'; Just face the tower: Left of the tower is "east", right of the tower is "west", and the tower at your back is NORTH. Easy-peasy!) and you will almost immediately encounter a fabulous array of stores dispensing fabrics!
