I have a question that is probably basic to most, but has me stumped. I want to do topstitching on denim, preferably using topstitching thread on the top and regular thread in the bobbin. The stitching looks fine on the top but either pulls right out on the bottom or has extra loops. I tried using topstitching thread in the bobbin also, but that didn’t work either. Advice?
Thank you in advance. This site is so helpful to me.

Do some trials on scraps and adjust to different thread tensions. Switch to a new needle, making sure it's a denim needle.
I've run into a similar problem and solved it by using a topstitching needle (easier to thread too). Practice on scraps first, with the same number of layers as your garment seams, to perfect length, tension, etc.
HTH.
also increase the stitch length. You need a denim needle with a large eye.
I use a Denim needle, a longer stitch length and I have Jeans thread in both the denim color and the gold.
You may need to increase the tension to it's maximum. You can additionally skip the placement of the thread in the thread guide at the top of the needle on some machines. Check your owner's manual, there might be a suggestion for threading your machine differently to increase the tension for heavy thread.
First of all make sure that your bobbin is threaded correctly. I would also suggest the top stitching needle or a denim needle and make sure that you are not skipping any steps in threading the top thread. Also make sure that your presser foot is lifted when you thread the machine and the needle is in the most upright position. This is the most common problem seen when it comes to tension problems.
You have to adjust the tension, sometimes quite a bit to get it to work without pulling right out.
