Tips for traveling on an airplane with a sewing machine.

LindaLanglois's picture

I will be traveling in July with my sewing machine and sewing materials.  Does anyone have any ideas for how to pack, whether to carry on or check the machine.  I think I will be taking my Brother embroidery machine versus my Bernina because it is a lot lighter.  I would love to take both machines, but how much abuse will the machines take in the hold of the airplane?

Check.  Too heavy to lift into the overhead compartment.

not plane but train (post #36099, reply #2 of 9)

I moved cross country by train and packed my sewing machine for the main cargo so it didnt travel with the passengers.  I sandwiched my sewing machine on top of laundry and put laundry all around and on top of it.  it was a softshell suitcase and no damages incurred.
