Side Pockets with a Lining

dizzylizzy | Posted in General Sewing Info on

How do you add a  side -seam pocket in a skirt with a lining?  The pattern has instructions for the pocket – that’s no problem but I’m adding the lining on my own.  Do I have to line each piece and then sew it together or is there a way to have the lining just attached at the waistand hanging freely?

Thanks

Yes. The simplest method is just to put the pockets in and then make a completely separate lining hanging from the waitband. There are other ways to do it and a lining that is part of the pocket helps to support a pocket. . but the way you are suggesting is perfectly acceptable.
