    zippered pocket

Hi, Pearlymae.  A welted pocket would work fine on the front of your purse and would look nice, mostly concealing the zipper.  However, if you don't want the zipper hidden, you can sew a pocket with zipper inserted near the top, then sew the pocket onto the outside of your purse.  It's fairly easy to do this way, and if you're want more instructions on this method, let me know.  There should be some instructions for a welted zipper application somewhere on the Threads site, I think.  Have you looked there?
