Sewing and Stitchery Expo

shayden | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hoping to attend the Sewing and Stitchery Expo in Puallyup, WA. this coming March 2004.   Would like to know a good recommended hotel in this area for staying at.  Any comments on what to see while attending the 4 day Expo would be good well appreciated.

    Hi, Shayden,

Go to http://www.sewexpo.com and look under "Where to stay" for recommendations of local hotels. From what I understand, these can sell out quickly, so plan ahead! I don't know where those hotels are relative to the fairgrounds; you might need to have a car to get back and forth.

That's a great expo--hope you get there. I enjoyed it immensely this year.

      Just a curiosity question?

Why are there so few sewing shows out east?  I've kept my eyes open for years for one near NYC, but sewing/craft shows seem to be held much more often on the West Coast.

There are sewers along the Atlantic, too!  :-)

Becks, I don't know the answer to your question about why there are relatively few east-coast/northeast sewing shows. Actually, there's one in Worcester, MA, in the spring, which has some very good classes and a nice assortment of vendors. The same show producer has one in Chantilly in September each year--a little farther afield, though. And if you're up for a trip to Toronto, there's a good show coming up this weekend there.

In the off-chance that you're not aware of it, the Toronto show is one of the largest on the continent, if not the largest. I've attended numerous times in the past....before I moved out West. Although there are plenty of sewing shows out this way, none match the scope of the Toronto one! Do attend if you have to opportunity, just don't burn a hole in the Visa card!

Speaking of shows,  I liked the review of the American Sewing Expo you wrote for the front page of Gatherings.  Nice pictures!!     rjf

Thanks. It's always fun to write up a show or expo when I get back to the office. I enjoy going over all the highlights in my head, and possibly running my fingers through my purchases (if any--but I rarely come back without some kind of souvenir). This year I bought a gorgeous Thai silk sarong at "Hands of the Hills," but haven't done anything with it. It slightly too short to wear as a skirt as is, but I don't really want to cut it yet....so it's aging in my stash, waiting for the right moment...
