I’ve been sewing for a really long time, but only started using a serger last year. I’ve noticed that whenever I’m doing something involving a rectangle – skirt, curtains, whatever – my grainline always goes katywampus no matter how carefully I cut or tear along the lengthwise and crosswise grains to get a square piece of fabric. It’s making me crazy because I see how it pulls to one side and there’s always literally a wedge triangular shape in the lower corner where the points don’t meet. Even if I try and stretch along the bias, it doesn’t help. What am I doing wrong?

It may be that your machine is set for some differential feed and is not feeding the two layers of fabric evenly.
adjust your pressure
Your pressure on your serger might be too tight. if it is affecting the grain, try loosening the pressure. if that doesn't work, you can try adjusting your cut widith so you have more control as to when you turn your fabric to the next side as you are crossing corners.
