RV fulltimer looking for advice

DoberG | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I’m going to be full timing in my Class C RV, and I want to purchase a portable computerized sewing machine. Don’t need embroidery, but do want something sturdy w/free arm, stretch stitch, one step button hole, auto threading and clear bobbin case for viewing thread volume.

I’m going blind reading all the research out there. I have an OLD Pfaff 230 embroidery machine now which I love but it’s in a cabinet and way too heavy to take along-[all metal–cams etc.]. It’s about 50 yrs. old so you have an idea of how out of touch I am!

Any help, suggestions, warnings…? My budget isn’t very high either! Probably looking for something under $300.

How exciting!  You are doing what I've always wanted to do!  I hope you will keep us informed of your experiences.

http://www.patternreview.com has sewing machine reviews done by their owners.

I would not buy the bottom of the line of any brand because they are often made in different countried, with different manufacturing and materials.  Even though made to the "brand specifications" I have heard of so many disappointed/disgruntled owners.

Most well known brands have websites and even where retailers are located which will be helpful too.

I'd consider a previously loved machine that has been thoroughly checked out "reconditioned as necessary" possibly with an extended warranty.  I bought a Husqvarna Viking Rose sewing/emb machine that had been used for classes and as a display.  It is still going strong over a dozen years later and much use by the entire family.

You also may wish to do an "advanced search" here for prior posts regarding purchase of machines.  Best wishes in your search and your adventures!  Godspeed!  Mary
