I have never put a back zipper in a 2 layered dress. The top layer is chiffon, over a satin lining. Any help would be appreciated.....

I would complete the seam on each below the bottom of the zipper.  Then I would carefully hand baste the two layers together - maybe twice - once about 1/4 inch from the edge and once about an inch from the edge and then treat them as a single layer.  And I would probably put the zipper in by hand.  It really doesn't take that much longer and usually it is easier to handle.
