Hook and Eye tape

LoomingOCD | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I’m sewing hook and eye tape into a corset like the dress on the cover of the Nov. 2009 Threads Mag. I need it for a party this weekend! How do I sew it so that only the hooks and eyes show without adding bulk? Or do I line the hook and eyes up with the seam line and leave half of the tape as a protector against my skin? Thanks!

    Oh my dear!

I'm so sorry to see that you didn't get any help here this past week - I'm afraid your post got overlooked in the general angst of massive changes to this forum...

Hope you got it happily figured out, and had a wonderful time, anyway!

I've seen H&E tape sewn both ways - simply "applied" to the folded and pressed edge, with the tape exposed but turned under; and sewn between the fashion fabric and the lining...

In general, it's treated just like any edge trim or cording. You must be careful, though, that you don't break needles on the embedded ends of the hardware. Sew slowly (maybe even by hand), and lighten the foot pressure so your stitching doesn't get forced off the seam line by the lumpiness.

It would be wonderful if you could post pictures of your creation, too, and share your solutions ...

    Bright Blessings!

    Kharmin
