hoodies

reamer | Posted in General Sewing Info on

I want to remove a hood from a zip up sweatshirt. Has anyone done this? Could someone share some tips with me? It is a new sweatshirt I received as a gift and I want to wear it, but, I hate hoods!

You should be able to do this, but you will probably want to add ribbing at the neckline then to keep it from stretching out.

Why can't you just use a jacket that you have trace the collar and use that for a pattern?    Change the hoodie to a collar.  That way you won't have to add ribbing.  Just a thought.

I had someone come in yesterday with this same problem.  She is going to cut the hood off and just add ribbing to the neck -  for a one-inch finished neckband, purchase 2-1/2" of ribbing; for a mock turtleneck, purchase 4-1/2" ribbing.  I stock many colors of ribbing - just send me a small piece of the removed hood for a color match.
