How can I press the fold out of a skirt I have lengthened? I have tried a damp cloth bit the fold still shows.

Liz, what's the skirt made of? I've heard of people using a bit of white vinegar on the crease on wool, and then using LOTS of steam. If the edge is darker (dirty) or lighter (faded or abraded) though, you may have to resort to more drastic measures, like adding a trim along the former fold. Depending on the style and the fabric, it could be a tiny strand of braid, a couple of rows of silk ribbon, a strip of leather or Ultrasuede, or whatever. If you repeat the trim somewhere else, it may look as if it belongs....

*I once had this problem on a wedding dress which I altered for a very tall bride. I sewed small beads about 1/2 inch apart, which covered the dirty mark beautifully, and matched some beads on her bodice. I've also done the very narrow ribbon trick to cover a fabric addition (same tall person!) both looked like design details, and were much admired.

*On more tailored things sometimes just a row of twin needle stitching can be enough to do the trick.
