Hello Ladies,I’m a new guy to this forum
I’m Brand new to this forum, but I’ve been sewing quite regularly for about 3 years now.
I’m also a 20 year old Male and feel that I’m most likely in the minority here (C’mon guys I know there are a few of you around) I started out with mainly historical and renaissance costuming but I’m moving into Fine shirts and Suits now.
I’ll also take this post as a chance to mention that I recently acquired a old ’58 singer 15-91, which is in wonderful condition and runs beautifully (My girlfriend’s mother owns a quilting buisness and gave it to me because she needed to get rid of some of her machines, so she just gave it to me refusing payment… I still haven’t figured out how to thank her! My Dear girlfriend also holds that my masculinity is forfeit and no amount of action movies and testosterone can save it. We’re both alright with that though.)
I absolutely love just absorbing knowledge, and I’m sure this place is a total trove of information.

My son and two grandsons sew. My grandsons also do machine embroidery. I think of it as an art form with fiber as the medium.
You can thank your girlfriend's mother by being really good to her daughter and maybe handwriting a thank you note! Mary

I'm so excited to read about your Singer 15-91. I am the proud owner of a 1958 Singer also. My model is a 15-125. I don't know how much difference this makes in the machines. However, mine a gem and can sew on anything. It will also be good that you have a person like your girlfriends mother to assist you with the machine if you should need help. I have just had my machine to the repair shop for a cleaning and overhaul. I did need a new electrical cord and the repair man said my tensions had to be rebuilt. This was good news to me because I had not been able to reset the tensions and I thought it was MY fault. Most of the repair people agree that the old machines are something special. Lots of luck with your sewing. I hope the new computer age will interest more guys in giving the sewing world a whirl.
Welcome! All my brothers know how to sew, and I made sure that my son does, too. He also took up crocheting and gets a lot of compliments on the cool skater hats and embellished shirts that he creates. It's a great skill for anyone to know!
Welcome aboard! My grandsons are fascinated with my sewing and all the tools and machines that come along with it. Perhaps one will try one day. I would be more than happy to teach them. When you come right down to it, what is the difference between being an electrician, finish carpenter, or tailor? They all require well practiced skill. If anyone gives you any hassle, remember, you are secure enough in your sense of self to not let what they say be taken seriously. And tell them so!
If you make something you would like to share we have a gallery for your uploaded pictures. If you need any info or help there are some amazingly talented people on this board. Many fine minds with many varying skills.
And if you would like to share what your are working on we are all here to appreciate.

Welcome! I have taught my son, also 20-years-old, to use my sewing machine. He doesn't sew an awful lot, but the day may come! We look forward to hearing of your adventures.

Hi and welcome!! I think I like your girlfriend already....lol. I'm 20 also and hoping to start a sewing business soon. I wish my boyfriend liked sewing enough to actually make something, anything- he could make 50 pillows and I would be just as amazed with the last as I was with the first. he insists on winding every bobbin he can find, with whatever thread happens to be on the machine.....last week I counted 7 white bobbins and couldn't find a black one to save my life. He knows how to sew....I don't know why he doesn't just make something!!!!! I have been keeping my NEW serger at my parents' house for lack of room in my apt., but I'm somewhat afraid of what he will try to wind on it!....lol.
Anyway, I commend you for doing soething worthwhile and thank you for posting.....Hope you find everything you wanted on here!!

Welcome Clandestine. Do not feel all alone. Though I am not 20 years old, I to am a man in this fantastic world of sewing. In eight months I will be 60 but I have the heart of a 20 year old and I still have all of my original teeth. LOL. I find just jumping right into a thread and posting your thoughts, questions and advice will return you many rewards. I am new here and I love it. ALL the folks here are quite wonderful. Hi Everybody. And the old Singer? How about making her a Lap Quilt with the machine? I think she would really LOVE IT plus she will have something that was made on her machine that she can keep 4 ever. And if some of your points are off, not an issue. That will make it all the more precious because of the effort you put into it. Welcome again and I wish you all the best in your future sewing.

Hi welcome I was working on a sun dress that goes with a hat that I can hardly wait to ware it is a large print not so much that it looks tacky it is of an iris that looks like a water color painting and it has light and dk purple and a little green the style is late 50s and has a nice swing and the shoes are lite two tone tan 3 inch heel . Well you lwill have a good time on this gathering lots of good info and lots of great ideas have fun sewing I have to run see ya latter
