How do I get the legs of pants to fit so that I don’t have to taper so much that I look like a triangle? My waist and hips need a 16 my legs need a 12 .Other than using a pattern with a cf seam. carol

One of the sewing instructors tells people to start with a pattern three (yes, three) sizes smaller than your hip size and then add to the hip and waist. These are relatively easy adjustments, and then you end up with the nice style you want.
