chic flowing skirt question

mms30040 | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi all,

I am relativly new to sewing and have a question regarding the article in the September issue.  The article was about making a flowing skirt ( pg 29 ).  When the instructions say to “quarter-mark the yoke and skirt fabric” what do they mean?  I understand all the other directions with the exception of this section.  Thanks for all the help!!!

    Mary,

It means to  mark the yoke and the pieced skirt fabric in four places. For the yoke, mark it at center front, center back, and a point on each side that's halfway between front and back (this isn't necessarily the exact location where a side seam would be, if there were a side seam, but it works for this skirt). For the fabric, just fold it in half and in half again, and mark the folds. You'll then match a quarter of the skirt fabric to a quarter of the yoke, and pleat it till it fits.
