advice on tailoring stitches please

smockerlady | Posted in General Sewing Info on

Hi there,

Will need to do some padstitching soon, on a chanel jacket I will be making.

Never done this stitch before and wonder what general advice anyone can offer. I have just read an article on the site that talks about using the blind hemmer foot to complete pad stitching, instead of by hand…….can anyone enlighten me how to do this, and is it successful?

I guess hanworked would be best??

Thanks in advance.

You need an actual blind hemmer machine to do that instead of the blind hem foot on most machines - it is the chain stitch from the blind hemmer that works.  Pad stitching is just repeated stitching that keeps your interfacing from shifting.  It can be fairly long stitches that are not pulled too tight, repeated in rows.  If the stitches are going to show - like on an under collar take small stiches on that side and longer ones on the inside.

Here's a nice link that shows you what to do:

I hate to say it, but you can get more info using a google search for any sewing term than you are likely to pick up on this board since the Great Reorganization here.  Try it.  You can even find good sewing videos at youtube.com
