I have adjusted the armscye on my muslin for a coat, making it slightly larger along the lower half (front, back, and underarm seam) per advice from a tailor friend of mine. But now the 2-piece sleeve’s cap is about 1 1/4 inches too small. I’ve found lots of info for making a sleeve cap smaller, but not on lengthening it. Should I reverse the “making it smaller” instructions by slashing and spreading, or is there something else I need to know? Thanks for any advice.

I think for a start try lowering similar amounts from the armhole end will give you adequate room on the sleeve cap.
Have you tried the muslin without the sleeve: does it fit as you wish?
Thank you, rekha! It was the answer I needed, and made sense as soon as I read it. The sleeve now fits in the armscye perfectly. I've been sewing a long time, but am relatively new to muslins and adjusting patterns for great fit.
It happens to all of us lot of the time; don't worry
Also, re fitting. Remember to take into consideration what will be under the coat when you consider its fit and allow enough ease across the back and the shoulders, and in the sleeve, to accommodate a suit, jacket, blouse, sweater or whatever. Z
