Big Time Props to Ruth for snail Mailing me the exact article I needed. It makes sense now. I bought today 4.5 yards of worsted wool, 4.5 yards of polyester viscose. I am going to make two kilts one for everyday, and one for “dress”. I spent the better part of my day pleating. After spending three hours tossing all the girly material on one pile. To find something masculine? thanks for all the help will have pics soon .

Good luck with the project. Looking forward to the pix. Pleating is always an interesting challenge. Definitely not for the faint of heart.
After two broken needles, one spool of thread, six bloody fingers, thirteen hours hunched over the table folding and stiching my kilt is complete. I of course changed a few minor details. tommorow i will work on pics, I am exhausted and need rest.
Folding and stitching. That is definitely the sound of a kilt-maker! Congratulations.
How did you decide to match the plaid for the pleats? Did you do the "Pleated Fabric looks like the cloth"? I just went to look up the names of pleating techniques: dress, regimental and "to the square". Which did you do? What plaid did you use? Can't wait to see. rjf
I chose not to use anything that was even close to a real tartan. Instead I used a black wool with horizontal gold lines, and silver vertical. The gold lines are on the edge of each pleat.
Sounds very good. Pix?
working right now on pics. All I have to use is a crummy little pc cam for now, so quality wont be great.
(Second message of the day, see: "finished kilt" if you haven't already). That was very fast picture taking, from 6:09 to 6:15! rjf
